Education
Over the past three years Disc Makers has won 15 (out of 20) SGIA Golden Image awards for the industry's finest quality on-disc printing more than twice the number won by all other factories combined. Our full-color on-disc printing uses a super fine 200 line screen (double
the industry norm) for on-disc image detail no one can match.
Thanks to their demanding process controls, we can deliver CDs to you faster than any other factory in the country. Many CD packages in jewel boxes are ready in just 12 days, and if you need it even faster, we offer an optional Priority Service that can deliver discs with inserts in jewel boxes in as little as 7 business days!
If you're looking for something a bit different, our board packages like affordable CD jackets or premium Digipaks offer an eye-catching packaging format at an indie-friendly budget.
And again we lead the industry in quality by including for free a high-gloss UV coating that protects your package and gives it a premium, glossy sheen. We can do this because we're the only replicator in the country doing board printing and finishing in house.
Speciality
Disc Makers, the nation's leading independent media manufacturer, offers complete CD and DVD packages for independent artists and record labels. Our state-of-the art facilities are outfitted with the latest graphic, printing, and duplication equipment available, as well as an in-house studio suite for mastering and post production.
Disc Makers History, Disc Makers began as The Ballen Record Company in 1946 in Philadelphia. The name was changed to Disc Makers in 1959. Ivin Ballen, father of current owner, Morris Ballen, started the Ballen Record Company. At the time, Ivin started the company for the purpose of recording local talent. He built a recording studio and started to press shellac records. Since there was no plant in Philadelphia, Ivin built his own and began to take in work from other established labels.
In the early days of indie labels, if artists wanted to produce their own materials, they had to deal with literally eight different vendors - a graphic designer, a color separator, a slick printer, a jacket fabricator, a label printer, a mastering house, a plater, and a pressing plant. At Disc Makers, we realized there had to be an easier way to make top-quality audio cassettes and records, and the complete package concept was born.
We created an in-house graphic design department for record and cassette covers, and later for CDs. And we began coordinating all aspects of the manufacturing process to take the pressure of dealing with multiple venders off of the independent artists.
In the mid-80s, CDs exploded onto the music scene. While indie labels didn't exactly rush to embrace the format, Disc Makers was one of the first manufacturers to offer CD replication services. In 1989, to better serve our clients who wanted the fastest service available, Disc Makers developed modest in-house black & white printing. This service was so popular that we soon added two-color printing, which was followed by high-quality full-color printing. Today, our graphic services have grown to 20+ full-time designers, high-quality in-house laser scanning and color separations, photo retouching, digital platemaking, and state-of-the-art printing.
