There is a never ending stream of hardware and software available to both those experienced in this industry and to those just entering -- it's the starting point and experience foundation that sometimes makes the difference. If the foundation is there then the dedication to learning the new is easier to apply, but when an entrant tries to work without a solid foundation of learning the results may still be fantastic, but the breadth of abilities and excellent skills will be narrow.
