Technical training school of automotive repair - 1975: Graduate of Santa Rita H.S., Tucson, AZ CAREER HISTORY 1990 - present: DUETSTUDIO, illustration studio, FL - I began DuetStudio in response to the increasing demand for my freelance illustration work. I have supplied illustration and design for clients like TIME, Esquire, BusinessWeek, Disney’s Family Fun Magazine, Golf Digest, Sports Illustrated, Modern Maturity, Motorola, Coca-Cola, TIME-Warner Books (including illustrations for Tiger Wood's first personally written book), YMCA, The Chicago Tribune, The Independence (large newspaper, London) etc. I have been responsible for all aspects of running a successful business including: self-promotional campaigns, website design and implementation, subcontracting photographers and models, art directing photo-shoots, billing/finance, purchasing, collection, etc. I worked hand-in-hand with local advertising agencies on ad design and illustration. Please note that any gaps in the timeline below were when I was working my freelance studio full-time. 2006-2010: ST. PETERSBURG TIMES newspaper, St. Petersburg, FL - Editorial artist. I created deadline graphics and illustrations on a daily basis using a variety of software. 1997 - 1999: VIRGINIAN-PILOT newspaper, Norfolk, VA - Editorial artist. In addition to the duties outlined below I designed several of the ongoing special sections and new teen section, and redesign the business section. I also began a special activities page for kids called the Christmas Fun Page that ran each Christmas Eve. 1997 - 1997: ORLANDO SENTINEL newspaper, Orlando, FL - I created graphics and illustrations on a daily basis using a variety of software. I trained other artists in the use of Photoshop. I worked one-on-one with news, sports and features designers and editors on page and graphic display. 1994 - 1997: VIRGINIAN-PILOT newspaper, Norfolk, VA - Editorial artist. I created deadline graphics and illustrations on a daily basis using a variety of software. I also designed and created the graphics for the paper's first web site. Some supervisory duties when art director was on vacation included: Organization and assignment of jobs, ordering supplies, meeting with editors in daily planning meetings and suggesting graphic possibilities. I was also responsible for reviewing and purchasing up-to-date Macintosh hardware and software for the art department and preparing the operating and capital budgets. I also trained staff artists in the use of hardware and software. 1987 - 1994: FLORIDA TODAY newspaper, Melbourne, FL - Editorial artist. I created graphics and illustrations on a daily basis. Supervisory duties when art director was on vacation. I was also responsible for reviewing and purchasing Macintosh equipment. My last year was spent on the paper’s first Design/Presentation Desk headed up by Don Wittekind, Graphics Director for the Sun-Sentinel in Ft. Lauderdale.
