Currently I run my own company, Maraval Pictures, which produces original media for the web. I also consult on social media strategies, and equipment purchasing and installation. My two principle clients are Carleton College, in Northfield MN, and The Boom Island Brewing Company in Minneapolis. I've included links in my application to a number of projects I've made for them this year. These videos have appeared on the Carleton website and Youtube channel, and Boom Island's Vine, Twitter and Facebook feeds.
Before that, I was the Team Leader for Media Services and Academic Technologies at Carleton College for eleven years. In that role, I directed the activities of five staff persons and eleven students. Our team was responsible for the media and graphic design instruction for faculty and staff. We hosted workshops, developed learning spaces, and coordinated social media strategies and video content with the Web Team.
Our team also ran a media lab that featured a green screen studio, digital transfer facilities, as well as video and audio loaner equipment. Managing a yearly budget of $240,000, I was responsible for the equipment installation and management in the smart classrooms. My activities also included committee work developing strategies for digital preservation on campus, the development of the Arts Center Building (which opened in 2011), and the creation of a coordinated support model for Academic Technology.
My background in academic support and technology instruction have given me a broad knowledge of the entire Adobe graphic suite, Final Cut Pro, HTML, and a number of other core creative technologies.
I began my professional career in Hollywood, where I was a film and video editor. For the last three years of my time in Hollywood, I worked in marketing, specifically making promotional video for the FX cable network and Buena Vista Television, as well as theatrical motion picture trailers for The Samuel Goldwyn Company, and Warner Home Video. In these projects, I wrote scripts, produced, edited, and supervised voice over and audio sweetening sessions.
My marketing experience also carried over to my work at Carleton, where I made many fund raising videos for Admissions and the Alumni Annual Fund. These videos were part of a coordinated fundraising effort, which raised over $30 million for the Weitz Center for the Arts on campus. As a result of our team's success, I was often invited to speak at fundraising events for the Arts building. I also have experience in email marketing.
