The Head of Technology contributes to the overall operation and improvement of the studio’s pipeline. This includes engaging in cross-department communication, identifying and providing solutions to critical path issues, and creating documentation. The Head of Technology develops and maintains software tools, provides direct support to artists, ensures artist efficiency and is responsible for general troubleshooting of the studio’s pipeline.
The Head of Technology receives day-to-day direction and priorities from the CG Supervisor and reports to and partners with the Director of Technology to support studio’s special projects and initiatives.
|Experience||Required Education / Experience: |
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Previous experience in Visual Effects, Animation or related industry
Thorough understanding of the VFX Pipeline
Proficiency in Python, PyMEL, PySide, PyQt, C++
Working knowledge / understanding with VFX applications (e.g. Maya, Nuke, Unreal Engine, Substance, Houdini, ZBrush, Deadline) is a plus
At least 2 years professional programming experience;
Proficient in C++ & Unreal Engine (2 years preferred for both);
Ability to test, debug, and extend code competently;
Experience with programming applications in UE4;
Experience with version control systems (Git, Perforce) when dealing with Maya and Unreal
Strong team player and highly self-motivated individual desire/ ability to learn as needed;
Knowledge and experience with the most current version of Unreal 4 is a plus;
Collaborate with programmers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during R&D phases;
Must be a self-starter and have the ability to self-manage time.
Demonstrated experience with pipeline development in a fast-paced, feature film visual effects production environment.
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and demands.
Detail-oriented and strong, self-sufficient troubleshooter
Professional experience with design patterns;
Knowledge of Maya;
Work well with client requests and your development colleagues;
Work on optimizing performance and improving render quality in game engine;
Work closely with the Dev and CG teams to integrate game engine tools into existing VFX pipeline
Desired Skills & Experience
Thorough understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting to modeling and texturing, animation, rendering and compositing
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge / understanding of Shotgun
Experience with package configuration systems (e.g. Rez)
General knowledge of networking and performance issues
General knowledge of network storage protocols (e.g. SMB, NFS)
