ExperienceJohn Sorensen is Vice President of Production for Grace Creek Media. Currently John oversees production, operations and programming for GCM’s projects, including the web and video development of The Freedom Collection, an internet channel that archives and presents oral histories of leading dissidents from around the world.

John has deep experience in both the creative and technical aspects of non-fiction programming for public television, cable, VOD, and the web.

At Grace Creek, he has developed a file-based digital workflow for producing, scheduling and delivering VOD content.

He produced and directed Grace Creek’s documentary Project Happiness, which he shot on-location from India to Nigeria and personally edited much of the film. John has produced programming as varied as the epicurean travel series Wine, Food & Friends with Karen MacNeil, to historical documentaries, featuring interviews ranging from Henry Kissinger, George Lucas to the Dalai Lama.

He has supervised, produced and directed several studio programs such the PBS series Think Tank. He has coordinated and supervised major documentary projects such as the PBS miniseries Heaven On Earth: The Rise and Fall of Socialism and The First Measured Century.

Before moving to Washington, John worked in Chicago as a writer, producer, and editor on several documentaries for A&E television including the series American Justice and Biography. His two-hour special J. Edgar Hoover: Personal and Confidential won a Bronze Chris Award. John has also produced and directed the independent documentary The Road to Yucca Mountain, a look at the proposed nuclear waste storage site near Las Vegas.

Prior to working in film, John taught English to Junior High School students in rural Japan.
EducationJohn received a BA in International Service from American University in Washington, D.C., an MFA from Columbia College Chicago and attended FAMU, the Czech National Film School in Prague.
