Since graduating I have gained experience in 2d animation through both working as a visual artist on my own practice as well as in a freelance self employed commercial capacity. As an artist I have exhibited widely in my first whole year out of art school. The highlight of which came when my work Away From the Unknown was selected for Outpost Gallery's Outpost Open Film 2012 by the film maker Stuart Croft. This was an amazing experience the screening toured nine venues through out the country. I have also whilst practicing as an artist started trading as a self employed individual in which I have managed to complete 3 separate animations for company's in United States of America, Australia and in the United Kingdom. These varied in complexity from simple one minute video to closer to three minutes, all where hand drawn and for each separate contract I developed and created the storyboard following the whole process through. This includes designing all the characters, environments, camera angles, perspective's, sound, and timing. I have always been an incredibly driven hard working individual and whilst at University I was an active member of a group of students who established a new organisation called SynergySheffield which functions as an art collective. Over time, this collective has helped broaden Sheffield's cultural and artistic sphere. SynergySheffield’s most recent exhibition took place in a new and upcoming art gallery known as Snig Hill Gallery. The exhibition served to promote the new gallery space which will eventually hold a permanent public collection of artworks.
I can use most adobe software to a high standard however I would like to improve my existing skills both with traditional and more modern forms of animation. I have just started learning CGI animation through using the open source software Blender. Furthermore I am seeking a challenging working environment which will allow me to further my knowledge and ability. As well as teaching me more about the practicalities of making animation I stumbled upon animation and fell in love with the medium after creating my first video on my foundation course. It was a mixture of hand drawn elements with paper, card, and wire sculpture. Which was very well received by both peers and tutors. It is my desire to do a masters degree in either animation or fine art at either the Royal College of Art or the Slade School of Fine Art, Kings College London. I am interested in making animation as an art form but like I said before I am seeking employment and an opportunity to hone my existing skills within the creative industry. Such as the gaming and film sectors which have a huge amount of diversity in terms of animation and are industry's that I want to work in. For the last five years I have worked part time on a weekend for Tesco which has taught me the value of customer service and professionalism. It was in Tesco that I learnt to communicate with complete strangers often being the one to engage and start conversations. You will find that above all else I am extremely hard working, polite, communicative, and respectful both of my clients, colleagues and bosses.
Very Best Wishes
