When it comes to capturing footage in different situations and environments, I have a keen eye for storytelling and I can quickly identify what looks good on camera. I possess extensive experience conducting interviews on studio and field settings in different countries in Spanish, English, French??"and also Arabic, with the help of a translator. In the past I’ve overseen multimedia projects from start to finish, whether it was with a team or on my own doing everything from scheduling, conducting, setting up, and shooting interviews to editing the project and ensuring timely delivery. An organizational competence and a systematized workflow helps me keep track of my video projects during post-production, and I have expertise working with systems such as Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, Lightroom, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Final Cut, and DaVinci Resolve.
|Experience||Freelance video editor/producer based in Paris, France looking to position myself at a company, non-profit or newsroom, where I can contribute to and grow as a communicator, a writer and a filmmaker. |
Most recently I shot, produced and edited two short films, both which are presently screening at film festivals. My short film "An Iraqi Belly Dancer" screened at the East End Film Festival in London and the 36th Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival; and my other short film "Unbroken Paradise" screened at the Washington D.C. Global Impact Film Festival--and will screen at the 2018 United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) Global Migration Film Festival and in March of 2019 at the Amnesty International Human Rights Film Festival in Southern France.
As a filmmaker, I have a keen eye for what feels and looks right in cinema and I understand one single frame can make or spoil a video; as a journalist, I have an insatiable desire for people's stories and know how to convey a narrative in a way that fits today's media landscape.
From these, what has resulted are a series of multimedia articles and mini-documentary videos, which you can see for yourself on my web site: http://www.juandavid.org/
Though I love reporting and writing, lately the bulk of my work has centered on producing and editing videos. In the past I edited a video on how climate change is impacting indigenous communities in the U.S., interviewed PBS NewsHour science correspondent Miles O'Brien on why science reporting is important, covered the White House Easter Egg Roll, and the Global Entrepreneurship Summit Department of State's GIST Competition, among others.
